    Dear Birders,

After listening to their wheezy calls for a couple of weeks, I now have
a flock of Pine Siskins that have descended on my sunflower feeder
sharing ports with the resident Lesser Goldfinches, less numerous
American Goldfinches, and an occasional House Finch. Like the Cedar
Waxwings, Pine Siskins are nomads -- coming and going with no
discernible pattern. Once you are familiar with their various harsh,
unmusical calls you won't forget them, and even take pleasure in their
wandering ways where some winters they fail to put in an appearance at
    all.
