Hi all:
Bob Lewis has a beautiful web-site at wingbeats.org.
Bob has graciously volunteered to house Alameda Big
Year on-going tracking and results.
http://www.wingbeats.org/Alameda2008.htm
The current tracking form shows the cumulative birds
seen by all who are reporting (sans Stephanie's
Gnatcatcher which will be added). The current form
looks like it's a closed effort with a limited number
of participants.
AU CONTRAIRE (sp?). This is a group effort. Anyone who
wants to participate is invited at any time; january
1st, Feb. 15th, June 30th, whenever you want to start
keeping track of your birds.
At the end of each month I'll e-mail a request for
individual totals, which I'll post. If it works with
Bob's web-site they'll be posted there, but it may
just be a narrative posting.
The value of the web-site is to see at any given point
in time the species seen in the county, what's missing
(in case you know where one of those is hiding!), and
the cumulative total. The rarer birds, hopefully,
will have some kind of notation as to who saw it.
The point of all this is to get out and bird. Have
fun, go to some places you've never been or haven't
been to for a while, stay local, find what you find
and let the rest of us know about it. It is a complete
and total bummer to hear about smashed windows at
Winton Ave. My condolences to the owners. What a lousy
way to experience such a wonderful place.
good birding,
Bob Power
