Passing this report on from someone named Daniel Cvar who reached
Larry Tunstall, the prior listserv manager. I can't vouch for the
    report ...

    [begin report]
"I am a UPS delivery driver and I have a route that takes me into the
Orinda hills on a daily basis. On January 16th if I recall correctly
I was on a cull de sac named El Sueno, making a delivery to number 12
at 3:15 pm when something caught my eye. It was the largest bird I
have ever seen flying and was the shape of a turkey vulture, but
about three times as large and from my perspective it had no red
    around its head.

"The Condor was soaring, heading north north west towards Briones
reservoir. I saw it only briefly; about 15 seconds. It was flying at
about 300 feet elevation above the hilly terrain in the area.
I am not a birder, though I do keep my eyes open and have spotted the
Bald eagles that reside at the Lafayette reservoir and have seen one
of the golden eagles that used to nest at sibley regional park.

"This bird that I saw in orinda on the 16th was very much a buzzard
shaped bird and I would guess had a wing span of 7 to 8 feet. The
weather conditions were clear, sunny and the distance between me and
the bird was about 100 yards."
    [end report]
