Greetings EBB'ers,
As Peter Dramer reported today (11?30/07 9:31.13) the Tropical Kingbird is
most often viewed when it choses to perch/hunt from telephone wires or cables
situated east (150 - 250 yards) of the end of West Winton Ave., Hayward. and
ends at the entrance to the Hayward Shoreline Regional Park Parking Lot
access Rd. (Note: Winton Ave. exits Hwy 880 (Nimits Fwy).
This morning (Fri.) at 9:00 AM it was easily seen about 175 ft. away, seen
on wires perpendicular to W. Winton Ave. and paralleling the old sewage
drainage ditch to the bay from a parking spot in front of the cyclone fence along
the east side of Winton Ave. This is the south boundary of the EBRPD Office
and construction yard for the Hayward Regional Shoreline Park. At 9:15 PM after
disappearing 10 minutes it reappeared again on a cable line running due
south about 250 ft. from the above location. By 9:30 PM (after again
disappearing) it had once again returned to the place 1st seen. It's forays to apparently
capture flying prey often took it out of view for a while.
Interestingly, several years ago, another TrKi showed up in this same area.
We are hoping it'll be present for the annual OAS Hayward-Fremont Christmas
Bird Count, Sunday, 16 Dec. 2007. Readers interested in joining this CBC
should contact Phil and Pat Gordon, Compilers via E-mail: _PAGPEG at aol.com_
(mailto:PAGPEG at aol.com) ASAP.
Happy Birding,
Phil Gordon
