Yesterday morning over my yard I had a calling Merlin circling and flapping
it's wings quickly in some kind of display.
This morning at Lake del Valle the birds were concentrated at the south end
where the mud-flats reach the shoreline. When I arrived there were three
Osprey cursing the shallows. As I scoped the various birds I saw two of the
Osprey catch nice size fish, one trout and one bass. The bird that caught
the bass landed on the shoreline and started consuming the fish beginning
with the gills. About 10 minutes later an adult Bald Eagle appeared and
drove the Osprey off the fish.
