Hello East Bay Birders,
I spent a few hours this afternoon birding at Lake Del Valle in Livermore.
Nothing particularly noteworthy, but there was a nice selection of passerine
migrants. At the Eagles View picnic area, I had: Yellow (3), Yellow-rumped
(6+), Wilson's (2), and Townsend's (2) Warblers (and Common
Yellowthroat--resident). That location also yielded W. Wood Pewee (3), Pacific-slope
Flycatcher, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet (my FOS). The "usual suspects" included
White-breasted Nuthatch, Nuttall's, Downy, and Acorn Woodpeckers, and Yellow-billed
Magpie (many --a great place to see this species in Ala. Co.). The only
shorebirds that I saw on the mudflats were Killdeer (many), Spotted Sandpiper
(2), and Greater Yellowlegs (2).
I had a total of 46 sp., without trying too hard. The low-flying rescue
helicopter with the loudspeaker, trying to locate a lost camper, may have had an
effect on my bird numbers later on in the afternoon.
On the way home, I made a brief stop at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton, where I
saw three American White Pelicans on the main lake.
Good birding,
Kathy Robertson
