Dear East Bay Birders,
On behalf of Keep Barn Owls in Berkeley and the Hungry Owl Project, I
am forwarding to you an invitation for an evening with owls this
November. Please contact me off list if you have any questions or if
you might have an interest in donating owl/wildlife art or photos to
the event.

> Dear Birders,
> I would like to tell you about this year's An Evening with Owls. It
> will be on Thursday evening, November 15, 2007 at Marin Art &
> Garden Center. It is a fund-raiser for the Hungry Owl Project, a
> program of WildCare. The event will feature informative talks about
> our local owls. We are very happy to have Renee Cormier of PRBO
> Conservation Science to speak on her study of local Spotted Owls. I
> think this will be very interesting! I heard that this year there
> were no confirmations of Spotted Owl nests in Marin, sad news, I
> hope it's not true, but I did hear this from a knowledgeable ranger
> at Muir Woods. Also the Barred Owl at Muir Woods did have a
> successful nesting, but I don't know if it was with another Barred
> or with a Spotted. So I'm sure Renee can tell us a lot about all
> that! Additionally, Joe Mueller, biology instructor at College of
> Marin will be our host and will give an owl ecology talk. I will
> do a short presentation about the owls and hawks we have rescued
> and reunited with their wild families this past season, and the
> wonderful people we have met. A very exciting development is that
> Hans Peeters, author of the forthcoming Owls of California and the
> West will bring that book, hot off the press, and do a signing. We
> are getting the book at cost from the publisher, so it will also
> raise funds for Hungry Owl Project if people buy a copy at the
> event. We'll have a silent auction with beautiful bird art by such
> local artists as Barbara Banthien, Mary Blake, Jeannine Chappell,
> and more. Mr. Peeters is also a wonderful artist and is donating a
> print. Oh, I forgot to say: live, non-releasable, education owls
> will attend including Barn Owl and Spotted Owl. There will also be
> food and wine. All this for $55, of which $30 is tax-deductible.
> Such a deal!
> So I hope some of you will come!!! You can find out all the gritty
> details here:
> Last year it sold out, so if you'd like to come, don't procrastinate!
> If you have any questions, you can email me directly. Thanks for
> reading this!
