    Hi all:

Bill Walker and Mary Wisnewski were scouting for our
    upcoming big day, yesterday; 9/08.
Bill took these pictures of the Seabreeze Brant at
University and w. frontage in Berkeley. I believe
Brian Fitch and crew had this bird first on August
10th, so tomorrow marks the 1 month anniversary.
Either a funky molt or some oiling is going on. Any
opinions? My knowledge of goose molt patterns is
    non-existent.

    Also of note from Saturday:
Peregrine from the same location (Bill and Mary)
Barn Owl hunting at 8:30 a.m. at Cesar Chavez
    (insomnia?)
Pelagic Cormorants (3) in the bay east of Cesar Chavez
Red Knots (3) at Albany Crescent

Please drop me a line if you happen to see any of the
following show up in Alameda Co. over the next two
    weeks:
    Ducks
Burrowing Owls along the bay or near the bay. I struck
out yesterday a.m. at Cesar Chavez. I know of two
locations in Fremont, but would like something closer
    to Coyote Hills and north.
Pigmy Owl anywhere closer than the county border at
    Mines Rd.
Any monstrously large flock of passerines. I don't
    ask for much.

SFBBO mounts their Fall challenge each fall, oddly
enough, and they provide a number of opportunities to
participate from guided trips with phenomenal birders,
to "do it yourself" entries, such as ours. They do
great work in avian science, and along with your local
audubon society, are a worthy organization in need of
your support. For more info, see sfbbo.org.

    good birding,
