For those on this list who are monitoring Cooper's
hawk nests, there must be one in the vicinity of, if
    not within Huckleberry Preserve proper.

Sometimes, an accipiter sighting can be equivocal, but
yesterday it was a slam-dunk ID. A brown belly-
feathered accipiter, with a distinctly semi-circular
tail edge, flew below the canopy and directly above me
along the trail. Earlier that day, I spotted a big,
gray-backed adult accipiter flying below the trail.
And for the last several days there has been a whole
lot of avian fuss and bother over some sort of
unwelcome neighbor (culprit not seen, however).

BTW, along with the odd family grouping, I am also
starting to see mixed species flocks again. Tired of
cricking my neck to bird, I laid along the large limb
of an oak, looked up, and let the birds come to me.
The creepers crept quite near, and the rustling leaves
and limbs above and beside me were alive with
    activity.

Now that's MY kind of birding.
