    I had a similar experience in my back yard last year with a Spotted Towhee.
    It looked like an antbird from the tropics.  I can't recall how long it took
    for the feathers to reappear, which they did eventually, but it took quite a
    while.  I assumed the bird was a survivor of a predatory attack.
