I lead a field trip up the south gate entrance of Mt. Diablo and on up last Wed., May 2. It was a somewhat rainy morning and no one showed up. I drove up as high as Blue Oak, then came down. Just below Currie Point a Bobcat crossed the road. I stopped and he watched me for 5 seconds or so then disappeared. I was talking to Brian Murphy later that evening and he said feral cat populations have been declining on Mt. Diablo and Bobcats are making a comeback. I guess I was unaware that cat diseases, like feline leukemia, wreck havoc on Bobcats. Another reason to try and decrease feral cat populations.
