    Birders,

Yesterday I spotted both a male and female Phainopepla in the Shell
Ridge Open Space in Walnut Creek. I returned again this morning, and
both were still present, with the male singing. They were at the
Whitecliff entrance, and just a short walk (200 yards, tops) from the
street. Take the lower trail around the remains of the first pond.
Continue up the small incline until a flowering Buckeye is on your
left. The Phainopeplas have been in the oaks to the right of the
trail on the knoll, and in the oaks ahead along the trail.

To get to the Whitecliff entrance: Drive East on Rudgear Road from
the intersection with I-680 approximately 2.0 miles to Whitecliff
Way. Turn left on Whitecliff Way and drive approximately 0.7 miles
to the end of the street. The entrance is at the end of the street
    on the right.

    Good luck and Happy birding!!

    Steve
