    Hi, all.
I hiked the Tres Sendas Trail from the Moon Gate
trailhead down to the Stream Trail this afternoon
(Sunday). I remembered the directions wrongly, so
didn't go far enough down the Stream Trail to see if
the pileated wp was still around.
I was blessed, however, with a personal recital from
a winter wren at the junction of the 2 trails. After
spotting him (?), but losing him when some noisy
hikers came by, I was surprised to find him maybe 10
feet away singing away, sometimes looking right at me,
but not flinching. He treated me to his long,
complicated song for 5 or more minutes before turning
and droping out of sight down the stream cut.
I heard lots of other voices, but couldn't ID most
    of them.
Seen or heard were some of the usual suspects:
    Stellers jay,
    scrub jay,
    dark-eyed (Oregon) junco,
    robin,
    chestnut-backed chickadee,
    California towhee,
possible American goldfinch (a glimpse of bright
yellow and black through a bush),
    unidentified sparrow--non-descript grayish--just a
    glimpse,
    other sparrows who's songs I haven't completely
    figured out.
    Cheers,
    Alan Howe
