On Saturday, March 31, at approximately 2:00 PM, as we watched from our
backyard an Osprey circled several times over head then flew away in a northerly
direction. This is the first time we have seen an Osprey at this location which
is adjacent to Redwood Regional Park on Wilton Drive near Burton Drive,
    Oakland (Alameda/Contra Costa County boundary).

Today, April 1, at approximately 12:30 PM, our first Black-headed Grosbeak of
the season appeared at one of our feeders. A grosbeak was singing yesterday
but wasn't seen. Grosbeaks in prior years (2004-2006) have arrived later, in
mid-April. On the ground under the feeder were: a pair of Spotted Towhees, eight
Golden-crowned Sparrows, three Fox Sparrows, and one Song Sparrow. On the
nearby peanut feeder, one Red-breasted Nuthatch and two Pygmy Nuthatches traded
places. Then, seven Stellar's Jays chased all the other birds away!

By the way, we saw our first Wild Turkey up here in Redwood Regional Park on
Wednesday, March 28, in midmorning at Wilton Drive near Burton. It was later
    seen on Burton Drive.
