I live near the top of the Oakland Hills in Montclair and saw the
first Allen's hummingbird this past Wednesday. He was right on
schedule. I haven't seen it since but there will be more sightings.
I also observed titmice and chestnut backed chickadees taking nesting
material (cat fur) from my container and saw 2 chickadees visiting
one of my nesting boxes yesterday. Also still have several varied
thrush in the yard, one of which has discovered easy pickings around
the feeders on my front deck which gives me a good look at her every
day from my kitchen window. I'm still seeing one golden crowned
sparrow and a hermit thrush. With spring almost here there will be
more summer birds and the winter birds will soon disappear. Right
now they are overlapping. There are more than 20 species that
currently reside in my area. Lot's of good birding.
