GGAS Bicycle Birding Trip: Fremont BART to Coyote Hills on the Alameda
    Creek Trail
Saturday, March 31, 2007, Leader: Kathy Jarrett
The day started with the Osprey sitting on the snag overlooking the
Tule Pond in the back of the BART station. There were also Ruddy Ducks
and Northern Shovelers on the pond. A few blocks away we accessed the
Alameda Creek Trail which we rode all the way to Coyote Hills. Eleven
of us enjoyed this beautiful day, and five of them used BART to get to
Fremont. During the ride downstream we saw Gadwall, Green-winged Teal,
Killdeer, Greater Yellowlegs and Black-necked Stilts. The Mallards and
Canada Geese are paired off, no longer in big flocks. We saw a turkey
crossing the old RR bridge west of the freeway. It looked as if it
might be a domestic turkey which had escaped from Ardenwood. As we
neared Coyote Hills we saw White-Tailed Kites, Northern Harriers and
Cinnamon Teal. There are still a considerable number of ducks on the
creek and the marsh. Returning through the D.U.S.T. marsh we saw Tree
Swallows; upstream near the freeway we saw Cliff Swallows, and near
    Quarry Lakes a Common Merganser.
