I finally got out to Byron today for a look at the SHORT-EARED-OWLs.
When I got there about 3:20 p.m., three owls were working the fields
around the intersection of Holey Rd. and Byron Hot Springs Rd. They
were easily seen with a few hundred yards of the intersection,
sometimes on the fence along the road, sometimes on bushes or on
the ground within 50-100 yeards of the road. There were also two
NORTHERN HARRIERS hunting in the same general area and two
RED-TAILED HAWKS. At about 5:15, two WHITE-SHOULDERED KITES
arrived and engaged in some mid-air mating displays.
