Richmond to Aquatic Park on the SF Bay Trail, Bicycle Trip, Kathy
    Jarrett
Trip Report: We started about 9:15 am at the S.51st Street entrance to
the trail in Richmond. We have usually started at Aquatic Park, so this
was a nice chance to be at Meeker Slough in the quiet time of the
morning, and we saw a Sora vanish into the reeds as a Great Egret
landed on the slough. There were great views of the Cedar Waxwings
foraging near the condo development, an American Pipit and a Burrowing
Owl on the recently reclaimed area just south of there, a male Belted
Kingfisher on the wire next to the bay at the Berkeley meadow area, Mew
Gulls in the bay near the Sea Breeze Market on University Ave., and the
Black-crowned Night Herons in their usual perch in the willows on the
south pond at Aquatic Park. We also saw lots of beautiful Green-winged
Teals and other wintering ducks. Nine of us enjoyed this lovely day.
Thanks to all the good spotters and to those who arrived without the
use of their cars! The ride from El Cerrito del Norte BART station is
quite easy; three of us did that, and another four arrived from the El
Cerrito Plaza station. 64 species seen.
