This is about what I also saw on Sunday, but I did
see:
Nuttall's Woodpecker
Say's Phoebe south of the Hayfield area
Hutton's Vireo in the Sapsucker tree
European Starling
Downy/Hairy Woodpecker (h)
Red-shouldered Hawk (h)
Song Sparrow (h)
I also heard a "pipping" high in the oaks at the south
edge of the Hayfield area, and Emily Serkin and I
observed an adult-plumage Junco perform a subsong. We
also got to watch the Red-naped Sapsucker preening.
BTW, note the big square sap wells it makes.
I caught these two (the two files beginning with "DS")
with a voice recorder (quick but not clean--you may
need headphones). The "pipping" is between the Western
Bluebird calls:

I missed the Golden Eagle and Townsend's Solitaire.

------
Hi all.
I, too was down that way today--saw the red-naped,
but not the solitaire (all the no parking signs made
me nervous, so I didn't stay long at its location). In
fact, it was a 4 woodpecker day for me; along with the
red-naped, there were the ever-present acorns, a
Nuttall's (I'm all but sure) and at least 1
red-shafted flicker.
Others:
California towhee
spotted towhee, a fair number of them
varied thrush, a good number
hermit thrush, also quite a few
Bewick's wren
chestnut-backed chickadee
oak titmouse
dark-eyed junco
western bluebird
ruby-crowned kinglet
white-breasted nuthatch
yellow-rumped warbler,
black phoebe,
Say's phoebe (I'm fairly certain)
scrub jay
Steller's jay
golden eagle, immature
Anna's humingbird
golden-crowned sparrow
white-throated sparrow
lesser goldfinch
American crow
turkey vulture
red-tailed.
If I was up on my songs, I'm sure I could add more.
It was a gorgeous day in a gorgeous place. The
grass-carpeted oak groves along the Indian Joe Creek
Trail were especially pleasant.
Cheers,
Alan Howe
