Brent & Doug,
I posted information on this from Cascade Ranch - they are trying to help
with safety. And do report this to the San Mateo County Sheriff.
Hi all,
We were notified by Cascade Ranch that they have made the provisions below
for parking birders. Park at Cascade Ranch, not the highway. (if they have
someone guarding cars, a small tip might be really nice, given their
extraordinary help.)
There have been several cars seen at the time of break-ins, the last one a
silver BMW!! So there apparently are several folks who cruise the area
looking for easy targets.
Make sure you leave nothing valuable in you car!!!

Hi Brent,
I went with Miller to the rotting brussel sprout site today. There were good
numbers of birds but saw no (let alone millions of) ruby-crowns. It was
worth the mile drive from Ano Nuevo, but not necessarily a drive from the
East Bay.
I say it was worth it up until the point that my car window was smashed and
the car was robbed. Even with the warning I was amazed, we were there only
about 20 minutes.
And the car interior was dirty and had no promising loot on display inside.
Moreover, to add insult to injury, I saw the thief run to his car and zoom
off-- in a shiny new silver BMW! Can you believe a guy in a new Beamer needs
to rip off a 94 Corolla? He was a Latino man, bald or very short hair, white
t-shirt, sunglasses, maybe in his late 20s. I filed a police report. Could
you send word to whatever list you're on that the car theft risk is still
very real?
best, Doug
