Sometimes word meaning can shift between disciplines. A biologist once
pointed out to me that birders (and perhaps ornithologists, I can't
recall him saying so) use the word 'dimorphic' incorrectly. We
routinely say that Williamson's Sapsucker is sexually dimorphic, when
in fact the species sexually dichromic. Sage Grouse is sexually
dimorphic.
Sometimes usage is driven by tradition.
