Birders:
This morning at 10:10 AM, Sunday 28 January 2007, two Short-eared Owls were
still at the right side of Bryon Hot Springs Road just 0.5 mile east of
Holey Road in Contra Costa County.
Directions provided by Kathy Robertson of Hayward:
The birds were all seen in a fenced area which is signed as "Byron Airport
Habitat Protection Area". To get there, turn off the Byron Highway onto
Holey Rd., then turn left on Byron Hot Springs Rd. The SEOWs were in the
field on the right (west) side, from the intersection down to the first
sharp right turn (later, I had one perched along the road just past the
turn).
Late in the day on Friday, 26 January 2007, the male Redhead was still in
the northern of the two ponds at Heather Farms Park in Walnut Creek in
Contra Costa County.

This afternoon at 2:00 PM , Sunday 28 January 2007, the Red-naped Sapsucker
continued at Sunol Regional Park in Alameda County.
To reach Sunol Regional Park, drive south from I-680 in Sunol on Calaveras
Road 4.1 miles to Geary Road and turn left into the park. There is a $5.00
park fee.
Directions provided early by Bob Dunn of San Leadro:
Cross the footbridge (near Visitor Center) and turn right. Shortly there is
a dirt road going up to the left and shortly after a dirt road going down
to the creek on the right. Then there is a huge tree on the right with a
single picnic table under it. The sapsucker was in the top of the section
of tree closest to the trail.
