This morning at Mount Trashmore there was a female Ruddy Shelduck associating with Canada Geese at the northeast corner of Mt. Trashmore, at the end of West Winton Avenue, near Hayward's Landing. It flew off with a couple Canadas and landed somewhere west of the radio towers. I assume that it is an escapee although it had no bands.
There was also a flock of 17 Cackling Geese moving around the bare areas west of the radio towers and then settling on the Bay near the shoreline. They indeed cackle.
We also took advantage of the very high tide at Arrowhead Marsh at 8 AM and saw 6 Clapper Rails, one Sora, and one Virginia Rail, all within 20 feet of the walkway. There will be very high tides for the next three mornings.
