    Hi birders,

I spent several hours this afternoon birding at Oyster Bay (East Bay Regional
Park) in San Leandro. Best bird of the day was a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW along
the north-south dirt road that runs alongside the marsh/channel (see
directions below). Also of interest were Clapper Rails (heard only) in the channel
that forms the north border of the park. It was quite birdy there today, and I
came away with a total of 49 species in about three hours of birding.

To reach Oyster Bay, take Marina Blvd. west from Hwy 880. Just before you
reach the SL Marina, turn right on Neptune and drive to the end (parking on the
street). To reach the area where I saw the CCSP, follow the paved trail a
short distance, then turn left on the dirt trail that is signed "Wildlife Refuge,
No Dogs". The bird was associating with Zonotrichia sparrows and goldfinches
feeding in fennel between the road and the channel. Look for second and
third orange-capped brown pipes -- that's the general area.

    Good birding,
