Well, I spent all morning looking for the golden,
meeting a lot of other folks with the same goal.
Unfortunately, no one that I know of saw it/them by
the time I left around 1:00. There were a number of
black-bellied plovers that moved in some as the tide
came in, but not close enough for us to be sure the
golden wasn't among them. There was one suspect that
seemed a bit more golden on the back/wings, but,
without a scope, we couldn't verify.
Maybe someone out there spotted it/them later.
It was a beautiful morning, though, with lots of
avocets, some stilts, and the usual suspects poking
    around on the flats.
I did enjoy watching the pair of Cooper's hawk
fledglings hanging around the Winton parking lot (near
the outhouse). They still weren't quite sure what to
do with themselves, and allowed me to get fairly close
to the fence they sat on. One hopped down in the brush
and hopped around like he was trying to figure out how
to get something to eat in the duff. As I headed for
the trail, an adult flew in with something in its
claws and the young ones went nuts. A jogger said he
sees early them every morning he comes out there. A
ranger said there were 3 youngsters, but that one of
them got tangled up in something and had to be
    transfered (for rehab, I think).
The line of cliff sparrows on the Sulpher Creek
bridge--adults and juveniles waiting to be fed--was
    fun to watch, too.
    Cheers,
