That's interesting that Jennifer mentions a "Storm-Petrel sighting." I went
to a playoff game between the Giants and Cubs back in 1989, and indeed, I
watched a storm petrel fly around the light standards for several innings.
The best ID I could make was Ashy, but I didn't have binoculars. It was
    quite a surprise.

At a game at the Oakland Coliseum long ago I saw a Golden eagle soar
overhead. I was so surprised that I jumped up and exclaimed, and insisted
that the semi-inebriated fellows behind me saw the bird. They just looked
at me as though I were completely insane. Oh, well.

My last "ball game" bird story was actually a story of a bird seen on TV.
During a preseason Chicago Bears' game about fifteen years ago there was a
driving rainstorm, so the field was quite wet at Soldier Field. The camera
crew focused repeatedly on a bird pecking its way along the sidelines. It
was a Sora! John Madden seemed fascinated by the bird, so I sat down and
wrote him a letter, including a photocopy of a field guide page describing
the Sora. I got a nice note in return, including an autographed photo of
    Madden.
