I've been wondering for several years when I would find a Least Tern at Lake
Merritt and today I got my answer. One bird was fishing along the pedestrian
path just south of the duck feeding area. It then went and joined a second
tern on one of the barrier floats.

Also of local interest, a pair of Hooded Orioles was foraging quietly behind
the boathouse.
