Despite the cold gray weather I was able to see a number of birds today
(Mon.) including both BULLOCKS (1st year inmature) and a HOODED ORIOLE
pair, bright male WESTERN TANAGERS and 3 BLACK-THROATED THROATED GRAY
WARBLERS. I was also able to view several warblers and a female
Black-headed GROSBEAK in one tree and 3 in one bino view- WILSONS,
NASHVILLE, ORANGE-CROWNED, TOWNSENDS and HERMIT. There seemed to be 2-3
roving flocks of mixed Warblers as well as YELLOW-RUMPED flocks. One place
Ive had good luck with mixed flocks several times is in the oaks on the
first right road/trail turn off from the main trail about mile up. If
you go further up another trail crosses which in other years is good for
Hummers. Up there I also saw HERMIT Thrushes, a tree of 3-4 RUBY-CROWNED
KINGLETS and the Tanagers. Back along the main trail were PACIFIC-SLOPED
and HAMMONDS FLYCATCHERS, HUTTONS VIREO, CAL. QUAIL and HOUSE WRENS.
There were 2 GOLDEN EAGLES soaring all morning over the quarry ridge top
