    Hi East Bay Birders,

Yesterday, for a Wild Birds Unlimited class field trip to Tilden Reg. Park Nature area, the warbler show was impressive. In the vicinity of the Little Farm and parking lot there were at least 25 Townsend's Warblers in the oaks, moving and foraging in a tight flock. Closer to Jewel Lake we encountered a flock of at least 15 Myrtle Yellow-rumped Warblers, in various plumages. Some of these Myrtles were looking really sharp, while others still looked rather ratty-looking. Only a few Audubon's Yellow-rumps were seen. There was lots of singing from these birds. Orange-crowned Warblers were located by song in various spots, and a singing male Wilson's Warbler came into view near the boardwalk.

At the Lake Anza area, we had wonderful views of Golden-crowned Kinglets at eye level in oaks along the paved path, and watched a pair of Bushtits work on a nest near the north east end of the lake.

It was also a great day to study the variations in songs from so many singing Hutton's Vireos, especially within an individual's repertoire.

(This was my last class field trip for WBU. Thank you to everyone who attended my Beginning and Continuing classes over the last 9 years!)

      All the Best Birding,
