Today, Jim Rowoth and I birded a variety of places in both Alameda & =
Contra Costa Co. We started out in Livermore birding at a few places, =
then off to Arrowhead Marsh and Berkeley Aquatic Park.=20

Las Positas Golf Course (Clubhouse Rd off Airport Rd S of Hwy 580): 1 =
male EURASIAN WIGEON with 40+ AMERICAN WIGEON.

Shadow Cliffs Park: The RED-NECKED GREBE (becoming quite colorful) =
HORNED GREBE, FOX SPARROW, WOOD DUCKS.

Del Valle Walking Trail (1 block E of the S end of Murdell ave): HOODED =
    MERGANSERS 2 females.

Old Water Tower (From intersection of Arroyo Rd & Concannon Blve, turn L =
on Bess Ave, then R on Vintage Ln. Midway down the block on the right =
hand side of the road there is a older house with a lots of chickens) =
    BARN OWL.

Arrowhead Marsh: 6 CACKLING GEESE, 10 GREATER WHITE FRONTED GEESE, 1 =
EURASIAN WIGEON with lots of AMERICAN WIGEON, CASPIAN TERN.

Berkeley Aquatic Park: NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH in the willows at the NE =
corner of the southern pond. Though it was raining pretty hard, it was =
still actively foraging along the edge of the pond and among the tangled =
undergrowth. It chipped a few times. HERMIT THRUSH & OC WARBLER were the =
only non-shorebirds around. Northern pond had a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER.

In Contra Costa Co. we checked Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline & Newhall =
Community Park (From Ygnacio Valley Rd, go N of Ayers, take the 2nd L =
onto Turtle Creek and park on the right in the first lot.) Walk across =
the soccer fields toward the bathrooms and Galindo Creek.

Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline: 2 COMMON LOONS, HORNED GREBES, 1 =
    GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, 1 SNOW GOOSE, 1 EURASIAN WIGEON, 40+ =
    AMERICAN WIGEON.

Newhall Community Park - YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER. While I was chatting =
with Kathy Robertson from Hayward, Jim noticed the sapsucker flying into =
a large tree across the creek. It visited a few different trees then =
returned to the tree that is was first discovered in.{West side of the =
creek, behind the maintenance building, to the left is a small tree with =
a sawhorse in front of it. The tree has lots of sapsucker well.} Also in =
the area were DOWNY & NUTTALL'S WOODPECKERS, GREEN HERON, FOX SPARROW, =
    30+ CEDAR WAXWINGS.

An interesting day of trying to bird through the rain showers!
