This morning there were two adult Cooper's Hawks perched in a Redwood tree in the Rose Garden in Oakland. The two were about 1 foot apart, on separate branches almost at the top of the tree, and quite visible.

They simply sat for at least 1 1/2 hours after I noticed them. Then one was gone. About 1 hour later, the other left. "Cooper's in Love"??

I have frequently seen a Cooper's in this garden, but don't know if it supports both year-round.

This park is frequently host to various raptors. I have seen Sharp-shinned Hawk, Kestrel, Merlin, Red-tailed Hawk, and Golden Eagle here. Before you scoff about the eagle, Round Top in Sibley Volcanic Regional Park is visible from this park, and is a little over 3 miles away. Round Top is a known nest site for Golden Eagles.

To reach the Rose Garden (Morcom Amphitheater of Roses), take Grand Ave north from the Grand Lake Theater at I-580 for ~4 blocks and turn left on Jean St. The park can be reached from Oakland Ave. on Vernon, or from Olive Ave in Piedmont.

The tree in question is one of the tallest Redwoods near Vernon St.
