The highlight of a day spent biking from Piedmont to Alameda and then
down the shoreline to Coyote Hills was a Burrowing Owl at Arrowhead
Marsh. It flushed a few feet from where I was standing along the road
by the southern pond. It landed on the dirt mound where it has been
seen in prior years. While seeming to stand high on its "toes" it then
proceeded to give its warning call and then bob its head vertically.
Have Burrowing Owls been missing from Arrowhead Marsh for over a year?

    Other highlights:

    =20

    Common Merganser on Lake Merritt

Osprey over Doolittle Drive near Arrowhead Marsh

American Pipits in a tree?? Yes, about 20 flushed from the ground at one
of the parking lots on Doolittle Drive across from Arrowhead Marsh and
    landed in a tree.

    Cackling Geese near Frank's Dump

    White Pelicans at Coyote Hills

    Says Phoebe at Coyote Hills

Red Fox strolling through the picnic area at Coyote Hills, oblivious of
    the people all around

Possible Juvenile Snow Goose on Alameda Creek; grey above, white below,
orange legs, white head and neck with some black streaking and dark
beak. It might also be a hybrid Canada Goose in that it's body shape
and size was very similar to the many Canadian Geese it was with.

    Common Moorhen on Alameda Creek=20

An interested stop I've made while biking near the Oakland Airport is a
small pond on Doolittle Drive a few hundred yards south of the road
going out to the airport. It's a reliable spot to see Cinnamon Teal and
    Black-crowned Night Herons.
