A little out of our area, but of interest since GGAS will be going to the
Delta next Sat. Several of us on a Sierra Club Birding trip last Sat. saw an
unusual duck near the end of Woodbridge Road about 15 miles east of Rio
Vista. Close to the end of the road in the western most pond was a duck we
thought at first was a female Ruddy. But on closer look it had two dark stripes
on its face---one through the eye (the dark cap stopped short of the eye) and
one like a mustache. At home I did a little research and found the Masked
Duck which in other respects looks like a Ruddy. This would be rare for our
area. Anyway, those going on the Delta trip Sat. should keep a lookout.
