Happy New Year.

Nancy and I just returned from southern California where we had a chance to
bird Monrovia Canyon Park which is a canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains.
There are reportedly 5-6 Painted Redstarts in the various canyons of the
area, and we were fortunate to view the single bird at Monrovia Canyon Park
on three different days.  The birds are extremely rare in southern
California.  I realize that this is a posting from an area outside of the
Bay Area, but thought it might be useful if someone was going to be
traveling there.  I can give directions to the park and sighting location if
you are interested.
