A White-Throated Sparrow (Tan-striped) has visited our Richmond backyard
recently -- on Nov. 27, 29 and Dec. 13, 14. This is the first time we've
seen one in 8 years at this address (approx. 1 mile below Tilden in Richmond
    View).

It has appeared when the yard has a lot of activity, with the usual
White-Crowned and Golden-Crowned Sparrows, plus Fox Sparrows (infrequent
    visitors).

The first thing that caught my attention was the well-defined cream-colored
head stripes; then the whitish throat with mustache lines and yellow
    supralorals.

The bird has foraged on the lawn, scratched in the dirt (digging down with a
repeated jumping motion, similar to Fox Sparrow), ate on the sunflower seed
tube feeder for several minutes one day, and has used the birdbath.

My previous view of White-Throated Sparrow was a White-striped individual
near San Luis Obispo many years ago...and it took me a while to realize what
    I was seeing this time.

ah, birding makes the backyard an adventure
