Yesterday at Bruener Marsh (the endangered marsh that the city of Richmond is desperately trying to develop just south of Point
Pinole) I and some other birders saw a clapper rail, burrowing owl, loggerhead shrike, Am kestrel, many native sparrows, a black
turnstone, and several (at least four!) white-tailed kites playing in the air, among other wonders. If you haven't seen this
site, check it out (end of Goodrick Ave. off of the Richmond Parkway). It's a gem and I hope we can save it from development.
There is another beautiful marsh south of Bruener, just south of the Richmond Rod and Gun Club that is also threatened with
adjacant development. Walk to the end of the dead-end road and you will see it--it's known as the Freethy property. there are
still incredible beautiful swaths of open space in North Richmond where you can see amazing bird life--probably not for long.
