We see White-tailed Kites consistently behind our house in Canyon Lakes
South of San Ramon. We back up to an old ranch (dry hillside) and they
frequently hunt over the hills. Last summer an adult and juvenile roosted
for several weeks in the tall tree adjacent to our town home. They were
visible almost every afternoon to early evening and then apparently left in
the early morning, only to return again the next day late in the afternoon.
Occasionally we'll see one perched in the tall willows surrounding the large
pond on the golf course on Canyon Hills Drive, just a block inside the main
gate.

White Tail Kites in Pleasanton city limits including Shadow Cliffs are
regular. For years they have been roosting in Pleasanton around Harvest
RD and Park View Ct., off of Hopyard Rd..
April to August the high count at one time this year was a group of 9.
Pleasanton has so many crows in the area of this White Tailed Kite roost
that each evening when Kites arrive the crows mob them.
But the Kites stick it out year after year.
Their favorite perch Tree can be seen from the knoll in the city park at
Harvest and Park View court looking north.
Shadow Cliffs is part of the SFBO Heron /Egert survey count area, has
anyone had nesting White Kites there?
Many years ago White Tailed Kite nested in the EBR Tassajara Land Bank
park.
But the park was a larger land mass then, B-4 the horse facility was
established and almost no development near by.

Subject: [EBB Sightings] more WTK sightings
Given the discussion of the white-tailed kites in San
Ramon, I would also note the following regular
sightings.
* I am regularly seeing 2-3 WTKs at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton.
* I have been seeing a WTK regularly patrolling the
fields at Dublin Blvd & Tassajara Road, mostly the SE
corner. He shows up in the evening. Yesterday he was
joined by a friend, the first time I have seen two. I
doubt they are the same as the ones at Shadow Cliffs,
but it's possible. The two sites are probably 4-5
miles apart.
* Yesterday I saw more WTKs at Coyote Hills than I
have so far this year. I saw several flying over the
northern part of the park, and when I left, I saw
three hunting simultaneously near the park entrance
where there was regular abundant activity last year.
* At Lime Ridge in Concord two weeks ago, I saw two
WTKs hunting together.
* I saw two WTKs hunting together in open space in
Danville a few weeks ago, at a friend's place in
Blackhawk specifically.
It seems that every time I go into open space, I am
seeing at least one WTK. Very good sign for their population.
