    Sylvia:

I've recorded Lincoln's Sparrow at my house in 23 months beginning in
1995, one or more every year except 2003. They've shown up as early as
early as September 21 and as late as April 13. I've never seen more
than one bird at a time, and no bird has been seen more than two days in
a row. I think one or two stop in my yard briefly (and most often
during migration), but don't find it attractive enough to stay. Rusty's
comments about habitat seem right on target, and may explain why LISP
are so hard to find in the hills. Yesterday I was visiting the Coyote
Creek Field Station of San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory in Alviso - a
riparian area adjoining a big weedy field - and saw three LISP. I
recall that when I was volunteering there years ago, LISP was seen
    frequently.
