Monday brought us an experience of the Wild Turkey expansion with six female
or young birds crossing the road near the pony rides in Tilden. Townsend's
Warblers were scattered throughout Tilden all week.
On Tuesday, we found an Ash-throated Flycatcher at the Albany Waterfront,
which helped make up for the unusual lack of variety on the mudflats, this week
especially, but also throughout the summer. Just as I was despairing of
seeing any rockbirds this season, a Wandering Tattler wove its way between us and
several large dogs near the tip of the bulb. No turnstones at all yet.
Forty Am White Pelicans flew south along the shoreline at noon.
Wednesday filled in some blanks on our raptor checklist, as three
White-tailed Kites flew south along the ridge near Vollmer Peak in Tilden, and a juvenile
Sharp-shinned Hawk was down near South Park Drive. A male Yellow Warbler
flew westward over the hills toward the coast around mid-morning, and a few
Hermit Warblers were in the ridgetop pines.
On Thursday, my youngest participant (6 years old) spotted the first Western
Kingbird we've ever seen in nine summers in Berkeley, at Cesar Chavez Park,
and today we found a Cassin's Vireo in a mixed flock on the slightly clearer
    east side of Vollmer.
