I have also been observing eagles here for decades, although mostly from
across canyon. The fire was two years ago, and the birds fledged young
last year. Which nest did they use? The nest that Alan gave directions
to had a bird setting in April. Certainly no bird is successful every
time, but there was extreme disturbance this year, greater than the
normal dogs and humans moving about. Seems to me that we should all be
erring on the side of caution, vis a vis the wonderful gift of these
urban eagles.

Subject: Re: [EBB Sightings] Sibley Eagle Nest
I have watched this site for many years and wrote a children's book
called Golden Eagles of Devil Mt. (Grolier 2000) about their old nest
site here. An arson fire destoyed this and an alternative nest. This new
site near the road has just been built. I'm pretty sure no birds have
ever fledged from this nest, and they were not always successful
breeders in the old nest, so implicaing recent disturbance as the cause
of failure is problematic. This site has been monitored for years by the
Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Group so they should know how successful this
territory has been.
