I went up there on Wed. and saw a few Swainson's, but
not the numbers seen earlier. But then, I didn't have
a lot of time to linger. I did manage to photograph a
dark morph, though.
I had more luck on the way there. On Mountain Home
Rd, the road passes by a large colony of burrowing
owls. I managed to get quite good shots with my 200mm
lens. Those out there with 400mm+ lenses will get
full-frame shots. This location is just past the
cattle pens mentioned in an earlier posting last week.
To get there, exit 580 at Grant Line Rd. At the
junction with Mtn Home Rd, go north. Just past the
cattle pens, you go by grassy fields. As you pass a
sign advertising "Skydiving", start looking on both
sides of the roads. There were at least 3 nests with
12+ owls.
