Hi all:
Valle Vista staging area and trails continue to be a
favorite. Never disappointing. Always like visiting
with an old friend. No big surprises this a.m., just
plenty of birds and activity. Best birds were a fly
over Caspian Tern and this year's crop of 2
Red-shouldered Hawks standing on a nest looking ready
to terrorize frogs up and down the creek.
Valle Vista, western edge of Moraga, is an EBMUD
staging area. A trail permit, available from EBMUD, is
required.
I usually walk halfway up the hill 1/4 mile south of
the corral, in order to scope the red-tailed Hawk
nest. I decided I could find it from the flats. I
had no success. It's been in a big Madrone the last
two years, at least. Does anyone know if the Red-tails
nested there again this year, and my angle was just
wrong (and I shouldn't be so lazy next time)?
Good Birding,
