Judi,
While your point is definitely true, my slightly tongue-in-cheek posting was about an unusual sighting of an uncommon bird, not a socio-ecological statement regarding free-roaming house cat predation on wild birds. My cat was closely supervised. If there is a nest nearby, that would be extremely noteworthy.

There's probably a nest nearby. If you turn it around there's millions of
poor birds that don't know what hit them when they are killed by someone's
pet kittycat that's outside.

A few minutes ago I was sitting cross-legged on the driveway with one of my
cats (Socks) and a Say's Phoebe came out of the blue and "attacked" my poor,
confused feline. This was the first time Socks had ever been out of the
apartment and I'm sure he had no idea what to make of the encounter. The
phoebe didn't actually make contact, but came very close, indeed. On the
way out of the attack zone the phoebe went straight over me and actually
triggered my "ducking" reflex. I've had Say's inside the apartment complex
a few times before, but this is by far the latest sighting.
Keep your eyes to the skies!
