Hi all:
I made the right decision to go birding after dinner.
David Liang was on a bird when I got to Arrowhead
Marsh. You know how you go chase a bird, and you get
there, and everyone has their hands off their
binoculars and there's a lot of chatting going on? Not
a good sign. In this case, w/David on point,
unwavering attention on something, I thought it was a
good omen. Sure enough, the rich black form of a
breeding plumaged Black Tern could be seen from a fair
distance.
I caught up with David and we enjoyed extended scope
views of the tern actively foraging in the southeast
pond adjacent to the massive parking lot. The tern
was foraging throughout the time I was there, always
at the same pond. Great opportunity to see a bird up
close that I've only seen as a distant fly-away.
As the bird was foraging at sunset, it's likely it'll
be there in the a.m. But for how long?
Thank you Marilyn. Thank you Ann.
Good birding,
Bob Power
