Yesterday, after watching the Franklin's gull for a
while (around 4:00 PM) I followed another birder
circling the gardens. He and another fellow saw the
chat just before I got around to the northwest side of
the Garden Center, but the shy little guy wouldn't
show himself for me, though he did sing nicely.
So I went back this evening and just as I was about
to give up around 6:00, I managed a short but good
look through oak brances at his head and breast. Quite
a handsome fellow! At that point he was in the top of
an oak just inside the fencing for the parking area
behind the Garden Center (to the right of the gate and
next to the building), though I'd also heard him
briefly out toward the front of the building.
Also spotted was a Wilsons warbler we'd seen
yesterday, plenty of robins, including one working on
a nest I could easily reach in a tree around toward
the front of the building. Just before seeing the
chat, the flock of waxwings flew into the redwoods
over by the front of the lawn bowling building.
Have a good week, all.
