    Dear Jimm and EBB,

Steve can fill in local details, but a few years ago he was of the opinion
that Greater Roadrunner was extirpated from Contra Costa County. There are
egg records as recently as 2 May 1904 from Mt. Diablo (Homer A. Snow; CAS
#4732). A few birds hang on in Napa County, but it appears to be gone from
Sonoma County. It is clearly extirpated from Marin and San Mateo counties,
where it formerly bred. It was found in Alameda and Santa Clara counties
during their respective atlases, but in the latter atlas, to our
embarrassment, we never confirmed breeding. I don't know the status in the
Sacramento Valley, but I assume it still breeds there to the north end of
the valley as described by Small (1994).

    Bill
