This morning I spent time birding Patterson Pass.
All road markers noted are seen driving west from Hy 205.
Tri -Color Blackbirds nesting colony on Via Nicolo Rd. is populated
again approx count 160 birds .
The colony can be found on the far eastern side of Patterson Pass Road
1/4 west of HY205 turn right on to VIA Nicolo Rd .
On the left side of the road you'll see a large metal fixture on a
Knoll, just pass that is a stock pond with cattails, the birds were on
the fence line.
This is actually San Joaquin county.
I spent time at road marker 6.21 this is a typically good spot for Blue
Grosbeaks.
I did not hear or see any BGB's.
Last October their nesting riparian habitat was burnt, as well as the
field to the southeast.
The cotton woods and willows are only about a third recovered.
There are many dead trees which may offer good viewing for the BGB, if
in fact the nesting habitat continues to meets their requirements.
There were Lark Sparrow present in numbers and a Rock Wren on the north
side of the road.
At road marker 4.98 was another group of 40+ Tri Color Blackbirds.
At road marker 2.98 were two Western Kingbirds.
I also stopped at Tassajara Regional PK. in Dublin to look for the
Cassin's Vireo reported by Steve Hackabone on Thursday.
I was unable to locate the bird.
Good Birding
