    Dear EBBers,
I found a new meaning to laid-back birding while attending the Two Day
Town sessions of performances of local musicians this past week-end at Lake
Del Valle. Scanning the seemingly hundreds of turkey vultures soaring
overhead yielded two sightings of adult bald eagles, and a number of
white-throated swift fly-bys. There are a group of Western (Clark's?)
grebes on the lake, acting somewhat breedy, and a hike along the flowing
creek at the south end of the lake yielded killdeer, a greater yellowlegs
and a spotted sandpiper (with spots), and a fly-by of common merganser and
    green heron.
Yellow-billed magpies, acorn woodpeckers and American crows were all around
us, as were the calls of California Quail and wild turkey.
Lake Del Valle and Del Valle Regional Park are just a short drive off the
upper end of Mines Road out of Livermore.
    	Good birding, laid-back or otherwise.
