This afternoon I had my first ever Wilson's Warbler visit my back yard in
Canyon Lakes South of San Ramon. A bright male, he spent around 10 minutes
flitting about the leaves of a large sweet gum tree pulling off tiny bugs
and a few caterpillars. At one point, he caught a fairly large insect with
clear wings and spent several seconds trying to beat the wings off by
repeatedly bashing it against a small branch. Finally he gave up and
swallowed it whole. He only sang one song during all the time I was able to
follow him before he flew off to a neighboring tree.
