Walked around Lafayette Reservoir this morning. Saw a
small perching type of bird on the ground hopping
around - had a blue back, a beige chest, and white
stomach. Possibly a LAZULI BUNTING male in breeding
plumage?
Saw an OSPREY twice dive into the reservoir and emerge
with huge trout inside of an hour; I suspect it was
the same bird. Lighting at high noon was too harsh
for a good picture unfortunately. I suspect the
consecutive hunts may have been because he had other
beaks to feed. In the Everglades I observed a male
repeatedly go out for fish, eat the head, drop the
body in the nest, and leave for more. Does anybody
know if there is an active nest at the reservoir, and
if so, where exactly?
I noticed two GREAT BLUE HERONS perching near each
other in a tree. I didn't notice a nest though.
Quite a few PIED BILLED GREBES were seen paddling
around as well.
Back in Dublin, at the Tassajara Creek park, I saw a
pair of EUROPEAN STARLINGS with huge wasp-like bugs in
their beaks chattering back and forth. After an hour,
they were still chattering with the bugs in their
beaks. I wonder why they didn't eat them. I took a
decent photo but it's a significant crop of the
original:

I also saw somebody's obviously abandoned pet rabbit
at Tassajara Creek - it had black/white coloring,
clearly non-native.
